20th December 2013 Kaloor city of Kochi (Cochin) in Ernakulum stunned. The dawn witnessed the huge gathering joined together at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium at Kaloor, Kochi for Yugasmrithi organized by KPMS –Kerala Pulayar Maha Sabha. Yugasmrithi the closing ceremony of celebrations in connection with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahathma Ayyankali. Lacks of KPMS members from all over Kerala. The member gathering includes babies, children, youngsters, elders and even old. They started gathering there even from morning it continued till 6.30 pm. By 4.30 pm all the seats were filled and many where even standing outside the venue. While the programme starts the stadium was overflowing. In connection with the event the traffic in Kaloor and Palarivattom was restricted and the traffic near to Kaloor stadium was totally restricted. The venue was totally under the security of Kerala Police and the volunteers of KPMS. Taking photographs and using phones were banned in the VIP venue that was for the State committees, politicians and other dignitaries only the press cameras flashed there.
Sri Pranab Mukharjee inaugurated the function. Honourable Kerala Governor Nikhil Kumar presided over the function. Sri Baiju Kalasala, KPMS General Secretary welcomed everyone to the programme. In the message Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee President Ramesh Chennithala told that the state central schemes are not reaching the huts of schedule caste and schedule tribes. He also requested the chief minister to write off the loans of the schedule caste till one lack. He didn’t forgot to congrats Sri Punnala Sreekumar the organiser of Yugasmrithi for organising such a grand programme. K V Thomas the honorable MP of Cochin talked about the principles of Mahathma Ayyankali. And these principles of that great personalities should be a part of students curriculum. He also declared that Loksabha Speaker Meera Kumar’s decision to keep the statue of Ayyankali and other Anti Caste movement leaders like Sree Narayana Guru at the parliament premises. Umman Chandi the Kerala Chief minister congratulated KPMS for bringing Sonia Gandhi and Pranab Kumar Mukharjee for different conventions. And he also declared the state governments support in starting any educational institution.
The honorable president Pranab Mukharjee reached Kerala that day morning at Thiruvananthapuram to inaugurate the statue of Late K.Karunakaran and at 6.00 pm he reached the Kaloor for inaugurating Yugasmrithi. He conveyed his happiness to be a part of that programme. Ten years before the Russian revolution Ayyankali organized the first agriculture strike. And he was the one to organise the labour strike in India. He also mentioned Ayyankali’s different activities one by one. He conclude his speech telling that the schemes established for the SC, ST and OBC were not at all enough. MP Vayalar Ravi translated Presidents speech. Whenever the name Punnala Sreekumar was spelled there, the applauses echoed there.
